Guidance Counselor

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The guidance counselor will assist students in creating and meeting graduation goals and also
supporting students with social and emotional needs

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support the social and emotional needs of students
• Support students as they begin their search for future career goals
• Work collaboratively with students, parents, and other staff
• Maintain organized, accurate, and detailed records
• Maintain updated knowledge of graduation requirements for all students
• Facilitate the writing and implementation of Section 504 plans
• Develop a strong understanding of various forms of diagnostic and formative assessments
• Assist students with applying to post-secondary institutions
• Assist students with finding and applying for financial aid for post-secondary institutions
• Work with Director and Principal to communicate district objectives
• Conduct meetings with students and parents to formulate plans to help students re-engage with the learning process for those experiencing attendance issues
• Conduct meetings with staff, students, and parents to discuss graduation pathways
• Assist with enrollment and registration of new students
• Support students who are experiencing behavioral issues and formulate plans to assist in
  creating positive solutions
• Assist students with learning about and applying to the Career Center
• Assist students with learning about and applying for College Credit Plus classes
• Assist students with making arrangements for college admissions tests
• Write recommendations for students as necessary
• Develop relationships with local community resources to assist students and the school
• Coordinate and supervise state testing
• Maintain accurate data to provide to staff and administration as needed
• Promote a favorable image of the district in the school and the community
• Conduct guidance classes
• Assist with the creation of new classes
• Create and facilitate group sessions to address student needs and concerns
• Other duties as assigned
